CDN Interior Motives Design Awards 2012
Lumiscaphe, official partner of CDN Interior Motives Awards organized by Car Design News On September 26th, Lumiscaphe participated in an event organized by Car Design News, the CDN Interior Design Awards 2012. This ceremony rewards the work on the passenger compartment of the future performed by students from design schools all over the world. As an official partner, Lumiscaphe participated in this event by offering visitors a sensational immersive experience. Many undertook it and were delighted by the immersive 3D stereoscopic visualization technology at scale 1:1 in real time. The device was similar to the one used at SIGGRAPH 2012 (please see article “SIGGRAPH 2012” of September, 4th): two projectors display the images computed by P3D Virtual Sight on two perpendicular screens. This device, which includes infrared cameras, stereoscopic glasses and a tracking system, displays a 3D scene on two-dimensional screens. The 3D scene is updated according to the observer’s position in the visualization area. The observer thus sees the model come out of the screens and can contemplate it from all angles, as if the vehicle was really in front of him.
Live again this extraordinary experience : The real time demo in an immersive environment.

LAVAL VIRTUAL 2010
Lumiscaphe meets virtual reality specialists Internationally recognized as one of the three main events in the sector, the Laval Virtual exhibition assembles more than 40 countries worldwide. The 2010 edition of the International Conference on Virtual Reality, which takes place every year in Laval, was once again a huge success. For this 12th edition, Laval Virtual assembled almost 3500 professional visitors and over 9000 public visitors, all eager to discover the latest innovations and technologies in the field of virtual reality. This year, Lumiscaphe presented the latest evolutions of its software solution packages. Contents developed with Patchwork3D were also presented to the public at the stands of our industrial partners (AMD ATI, Immersion).
P3D Virtual Sight : immersive presentation at 1:1 scale with stereoscopy The Lumiscaphe stand gathered many visitors keen to see its software P3D Virtual Sight, the solution for visualization of products in an immersive environment at 1:1 scale with stereoscopy. This device, composed of an AS3D projector (Projection Design), with a projection area of 2.40 m x 1.80 m and two infrared head-tracking cameras, enables an observer equipped with stereoscopic spectacles with infrared reflectors to be projected into the virtual reality, discovering the observed object in relief at its actual scale. All who tried it were in agreement: the impression of realism is breathtaking! By virtue of the P3D rendering engine, P3D Virtual Sight faithfully reproduces the image quality of any model produced with Patchwork3D. The head-tracking system makes it possible to synchronize the projected stereoscopic images with the position and movements of the observer. The view adjusts to the slightest head movement and thus simulates natural scanning of the observer’s field of vision. Here, for example (see photos), the observer can take a few steps around the vehicle, approach it to examine the bodywork details, or stoop down to examine the undercarriage. Visualization at the 1:1 scale then gives a natural dimension to the study of a virtual product. The observer can obviously combine this mode of intuitive movement with more conven¬tional navigation, using a control pad/joystick, enabling faster movement around the object.
The Renault vehicle configurator in demonstration at the Lumiscaphe stand Many visitors stopped at the Lumiscaphe stand to discover the new real-time interactive configurator system with which Renault dealers have become equipped in recent months. What better support for illustrating the full power of the new software developed by Lumiscaphe : P3D Conf Builder. This interactive terminal equipped with an HD touchscreen uses the P3D Conf Builder technology to visualize and explore all the configuration combinations of a vehicle in real time. The terminal’s touchscreen offers intuitive navigation in the interface and allows selection of the vehicle options: change the bodywork color, the interior ambience, the wheel trims or the type of car hifi system. The user can thus configure his car and navigate freely around the vehicle and inside the passenger compartment to experience it in its finest details. This terminal has the particular feature of being connected to the Renault information systems, which allows the constructor to update its range of vehicles entirely autonomously.
Customized software demonstrations on request Besides the video demonstrations presenting the latest features of Patchwork3D on a full HD screen, our specialists offered interested visitors the opportunity of discovering the P3D software packages or of enhancing their knowledge by means of personalized demonstrations. This international exhibition is our opportunity to meet users with very different work profiles. It is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas regarding the future evolutions of our tools and to understand our users’ expectations. As such, we can already announce that we will be participating in the 2011 edition of Laval Virtual, which will be held on April 6-10, 2011. |

IMAGINA 2010Lumiscaphe attends the European New Technologies and Virtual Reality Show in Monaco This event, which took place from the 3th to 5th of February 2010 gathered this year nearly 2000 visitors in three days. With 798 companies from 36 countries attending, Imagina is the major event of the beginning of the year for the professionals of the virtual reality world. For its fourth involvement in a row Lumiscaphe displayed the last novelties of the P3D software suite. «Participating in such an event is for us the opportunity to present our new P3D software suite to the public, but also to meet professionals who might become industrial partners or new customers. The displays of our flagship software : Patchwork3D v4.0 aroused a keen interest which is a rather good omen for the future of our software development. P3D Ray-it, the last born of our software suite, was also a big hit. The 3D imagery professionals, looking for a solution allowing them to associate real-time rendering and picture realism with a raytracing engine, are numerous. P3D Ray-it brings this new rendering ability to our software range.» Philippe Dieudonné
The P3D softwares presented in HD This year, Lumiscaphe was presenting, as a European preview, the last 4K screen from Sony, with its staggering definition (3840px X 2160px !) to enjoy the P3D softwares in very high definition. The screen definition covers in resolution 4 full HD monitors (2X2). To drive this non-standard display, which requires 4 video entries, Lumiscaphe used NVIDIA's Quadro Plex, equipped with two graphics boards FX 5800. This set-up allowed a wide public to (re)discover all the magnificence of the textures and the subtlety of materials created with Patchwork3D, thereby giving the viewers a way to appreciate the slightest details from up close or from far away.
Patchwork3D in 3D stereoscopy On the Lumiscaphe booth , visitors had also the opportunity to discover the new generation of stereoscopic board developed by Planar and distributed by Schneider Digital. This device, made of two 26’’ screens placed at 120 ° from each other and separated by a mirror semi-reflective, allows, with polarized glasses, a visualization of a 3D scene in raised-relief, thereby reinforcing in a spectacular manner the impression of realism of the models. The device’s retractable mirror can go from a stereoscopic to a standard rendering in just one movement, thereby enabling an easy swap from 3D stereoscopic presentation mode to a 2D work counter. This sort of set up is based on an ingenious technology whose main advantage, compared to some stereoscopic systems, is not to reduce the rendering resolution. This constraint is essential to fully appreciate the picture realistic qualities of the textures' treatment on the P3D softwares. Lumiscaphe is looking forward to meeting you at the next exhibition Imagina 2011 which will take place from the 1st to 3rd of February 2011. In the interim, the all team wishes you a great year 2010 full of virtual emotions. |
