If you plan on working on large datasets (e.g. complete cars, aircraft interiors, etc.), you should choose the recommended configurations. For relatively small datasets (e.g. small consumer products, etc.), the minimum configurations may be enough but you will enjoy greater efficiency with the "recommended" configurations.

Bear in mind that the central processor's performance is mainly for scene preparation (data import, tessellation, surface stitching), the graphics board is for 3D aspects (lighting, rendered frames per second, number of polygons shown at the same time, material complexity without losing performance, textures sizes and number of textures used in the scene).
